How I Transformed My Freelance

Practice from Struggling to Thriving

I know how you feel because I struggled with these very same issues when I started out as a freelance bookkeeper. Thankfully, I was able to overcome these challenges and create a practice that worked for me. Over the years many bookkeeping colleagues have asked me how I transformed my practice.

I REALLY struggled in the beginning. I started out working around the clock, trading dollars for hours and making very little to…

• Increasing my annual revenue from $60k to over the half million mark – in less than 4 years
• Giving myself more free time because I went from being a one-woman-show to having a fantastic support staff of 3 – in less than a year
• Realizing my financial dream when in 2009 I had a 6-figure multi-year payout/purchase of my practice (which is why I now have the time to help you get where you want to be!)

How did I accomplish this?

Six months after starting my biz I hired my first business coach who helped me work through the challenges I was facing running a business. She helped me answer critical business questions I didn’t know that I didn’t know. This fresh perspective was INVALUABLE to my business growth so since then I made sure to always have some type of coaching or mentoring relationship in place.

During this time, I gradually made a shift and began to think like the CEO of my business instead of “just” a bookkeeper. I discovered that I needed to leverage my time, money and energy much more effectively.

Once I shifted into this “business owner” mindset, I started creating practice management strategies for my business. That really took the stress and anxiety out of difficult situations like following up leads, signing on new clients, delegating tasks to my staff, etc. Instead of stewing about each situation, I just implemented my well-thought-out system – what a relief!

But something was still missing for me…

What I didn’t have, and what I yearned for, was a place where I could collaborate with other freelance professionals who understood the unique c hallenges in our industry.
